Hangzhou

It is a city in the Zhejiang province of China, and is widely considered one of the most beautiful cities in the country. Known for its stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and delicious cuisine, it is a popular tourist destination for those looking to experience the real China. In this blog, we will explore our journey to Hangzhou as part of our project "Lion on the Road - Discover Real China".

Green Tea and Delicious Local Food

One of the most important aspects of Chinese culture is its food, and Hangzhou is no exception. Our journey to Hangzhou started in March 2018, and we were immediately struck by the abundance of green tea and delicious local food. We had the opportunity to learn about the history of tea and the sacred steps involved in the tea ritual from Toma and GuoFan. The tea ritual is a true testament to the depth of Chinese culture, and we were honored to be a part of it.

In addition to green tea, we also had the opportunity to taste the traditional Hangzhou cuisine. We were invited by Chef LiuLiang, who is famous for his unique and innovative take on traditional Hangzhou recipes. He has even been featured in the number one Chinese food documentary series, making our experience with him a true privilege.

Discovering the Real China

One of the highlights of our journey to Hangzhou was being able to witness the cultural events and festivals. One of the most important of these festivals is the spring festival.

Spring Festival in Hangzhou city is a time of great celebration and excitement. This annual event takes place in February and marks the start of the Lunar New Year. The city comes alive with vibrant colors, beautiful decorations, and festive activities, making it a truly special time to visit. During the festival, locals participate in traditional activities such as dragon and lion dances, temple fairs, and feasts. Visitors can also enjoy the amazing food and drinks, such as dumplings and rice cakes, that are specifically prepared for the occasion. The Spring Festival in Hangzhou is a unique and unforgettable experience, where you can immerse yourself in the rich culture and heritage of China. Whether you're a local or a traveler, this event is not to be missed!

In addition to the torch festival, we were also able to visit other important cultural sites in Hangzhou, such as the West Lake, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The lake is surrounded by beautiful gardens, temples, and pagodas, making it a true oasis in the heart of the city.

Conclusion

In conclusion, our journey to Hangzhou was a truly eye-opening experience, and one that we will never forget. We were able to witness firsthand the rich cultural heritage of the city and its people, as well as the delicious cuisine and green tea. We hope that our project "Lion on the Road - Discover Real China" will inspire others to explore the real China, and to experience the beauty, culture, and heritage that this amazing country has to offer.
