Discovering Lanzhou: A Foodie's Paradise
Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu province in China, is a place full of history, culture and adventure. Once just a transit area, it has now transformed into a destination with many tourist attractions and beautiful sights.
One of the city's most iconic landmarks is the Zhongshan Bridge, which was built by the Germans in 1907 and is recorded as the first Yellow River Bridge in history
Across from the Zhongshan Bridge is the BaiTa Mountain, which is highlighted by the beautiful White Pagoda and accompanied by several museums and tea gardens. The BaiTa Mountain is perfect for a hike and offers stunning views of the city and the surrounding landscape.
Another landmark in the city is the "Mother Yellow River" sculpture, located on the west side of the city. From here, you can take a boat ride or an exciting sheepskin raft down the Yellow River. Another highlight in the city is the waterwheel park, a technique brought from southern Yunnan province in the 16th century to aid in irrigation.
In 1952, there were 250 wheels on both sides of the river, but now they are used only for exhibition.
Lanzhou is also known for its delicious food, including the famous Lanzhou beef noodles and "San Pao Tai" tea. The city has a large Muslim population, so there are several beautiful mosques around the city, including the Lanzhou XiGuan Mosque, one of the largest in China.
The city's famous night market is just a 5-minute walk from the mosque.
The traffic in Lanzhou can be heavy, but riding a bicycle is still a popular choice for getting around. Discover why by watching the full Lanzhou food Vlog on our website.
