Food is not just about filling up your stomach; it’s about exploring different cultures and experiencing the unique tastes of each place. And that’s exactly what Lion, the chef of the “Lion on the Road” project, tries to achieve through his special activity called “Food Competition.”

In this activity, Lion challenges local families and grandmothers to cook their best recipe against his. The challenge is not just about who can cook better, but also about cultural exchange and learning from each other's cuisine.

The team recently visited Jishui village in Jiangxi and met with Grandma LaiNi Jiao. Lion prepared his special recipe, the famous “Popa” dish, and Grandma LaiNi Jiao cooked the local famous fish recipe called “sonhuyu.” Lion’s challenge was to present his recipe in front of the local crowd, who would then decide if his food was better than Grandma LaiNi Jiao's.

Before the competition, Lion headed to the local market to gather the ingredients he needed. However, he didn't speak the language, which added a bit of a challenge to the task. The market was colorful and full of new things to explore. The team found themselves fascinated by the different kinds of vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients that they had never seen before.

After gathering the ingredients, it was time for the competition. The food competition between Lion and Grandma LaiNi Jiao was fun and friendly, but both sides were eager to win. The competition was filled with funny and beautiful moments that everyone enjoyed.

The local crowd, including the team's audience, was the judge of the competition. They tasted both dishes and voted for the best one. The competition was tight, but in the end, there was only one winner. Who was it? Was it Lion with his famous “Popa” dish, or Grandma LaiNi Jiao with her delicious “sonhuyu” fish recipe?

To find out who won the competition and how things ended up for Lion and his team, watch the video of the food competition in Jishui village on our website.

Food competitions like this are a great way to explore different cultures and learn about their cuisines. It is not only about the taste, but also about the history, the tradition, and the love that goes into each recipe. It is also a great way to bring people together, to break down barriers, and to promote cultural exchange.

The “Food Competition” activity is just one of the many exciting activities that the “Lion on the Road” team engages in. The team's goal is to explore China and its unique culture, to document their experiences, and to share them with the world.
